Letting go and “undoing”

In this special series of three Sundays Sessions with Henry, we will explore some causes and conditions that practice sets up, which help open up the awakened heart of our life.

Different traditions cite various “factors of awakening,” and we will explore and practice with some of these approaches, such as the “seven factors of awakening” in Theravada Buddhism, and the koans and “beginner’s mind” in Zen.

At the same time, we will investigate how much the factors are a matter of “doing,” or in fact of “undoing.” We may feel we are “doing” a certain practice, while in reality the practice is at the same time “undoing” us. Practice is often as much about “doing” as it is about releasing, relinquishing, letting go – or “undoing”.

We will also explore some of the characteristics of awakened experience, both traditionally named ones, and anecdotal and personal ones. While experimenting with a variety of the factors, we can reflect on our own experiences of practice and awakening that may shed their own light on the path.

The peace of our true nature

Sunday Sessions are a chance to gather in community to investigate our true nature, and settle into the deep rest and peace that it can provide.

Each session offers an exploration, from the heart, of various themes and practices inherent in the Original Love program.

There is a guided meditation and a talk that is often infused with poetry, with teachings old and new, with quotes from beloved authors and poignant stories.

Sunday Sessions end with a Q&A period where students will have the chance to ask questions, and hear answers to the questions that other students have on their minds and hearts.
