An extraordinary everyday life

Join David Whyte and Henry Shukman for a morning looking through the lens of poetry, contemplation and art, at the way a fiercely attentive heart and mind can shape our unordinary daily lives in extraordinary and transformative ways.

Poetry, Zen, and meditation

Both poetry and Zen are art forms that pay deep attention to what we only call the ordinary. Poetry holds up our ordinary days to the light, and shows them to be “un-ordinary,” in fact full, every day, of the quietly miraculous.

Meditation shines its own quiet light on our most ordinary moments and illuminates in them a timeless awareness that can make them familiar and marvelous at the same time. To discover the unordinary, we cherish the ordinary. To come back to the ordinary with a whole heart, we rest in the unordinary. They are never more than one step apart.
