A message from Henry

Original Love was founded as an experiment in online learning and discovery, both for the team and for the students who joined in. I’m personally very grateful and happy to see how helpful it has been. Many students have reported reaping benefits from our programs. Having teaching and community accessible right in the middle of the living room of our home has done what I’d hoped and more. It has helped us all to drop into our practice where we most need it, in the middle of our daily lives.

This has always been the gold standard of practice. Whatever sublime mysteries I may penetrate on my cushion, how am I actually living out this way in my interactions and behaviors?

Why an in-person retreat?

So… why are we finally having an in person retreat? Once again, it’s an experiment. Basically, I’m curious to see what it’s like to explore Original Love, live in a room full of other people. It will be different, for sure, but how? What will we learn that we might be able to incorporate in our digital teaching? Which parts of it will be unique to onsite, in-person experience? And which will be replicatable?

Also on the retreat we will have online participants as well. What will it be like for them? Will being connected to a live space full of practitioners make a difference?

The plan for our 3 days

The plan: use our three days to sink deeper and deeper into the blessedness of our “original nature” step by step. Using the Original Love program structure — mindfulness, support, flow and awakening — we will let go and release our patterns, our emotional habits, our cognitive addictions and become absorbed in the simple, clear, loving awareness that is always here in the deeper, quieter waters of our very own consciousness.

That’s the hope — a powerful healing and awakening immersion in the one reality behind all things — the original love of our original nature.

Shared silence, shared stillness and simple, clear step by step practices to help us release into the one awareness that we all share.

In-person retreat logistics

The retreat is being held at Mountain Cloud Zen Center, the beautiful and peaceful retreat space in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. Due to space limitations for lodging and food preparation onsite, the retreat is commuter only (participants will find their own lodging offsite), and participants will be bringing their own lunches each day.
